South Chutes is an area of great, but short, skiing that occupies the space between Firebowl and the lower portions of Lift 9. Due to high elevation (Between 11,500 and 12,000 feet), and the north-facing exposure, South Chutes often enjoys some of Loveland's best snow. It's a popular run, and you won't generally get fresh tracks for days after a snowfall (like you might expect in the far reaches of the Ridge), but the packed snow never gets icy.

The terrain is interesting, with some well-spaced trees (too few to really call it a glade), and a nice advanced intermediate pitch. Little rolls and variation abound - portions are a natural terrain park.

There are many options from the bottom of South Chutes: You can loop around and ride the Poma or the Lift 2 reload and repeat South Chutes, or you can ride Lift 9 to the top of the ridge. Lift's One , Four, and Six (? - I think so) can be accessed without uphill hiking from the bottom of South Chutes.
