Karl Kelman's Honda 50
The Honda 50 was a good little mini-bike, with clearly superior engineering to the "cheap square metal tubes and lawn-mower engine" design favored by most mini-bikes in 1970. I read somewhere once that Honda actually had a long-range plan in building a good mini-bike: To convince young people that their engineering was superior to that of the American companies selling mini-bikes, and pave the way for a lifetime of automobile sales. 1.95 Horsepower, 107 lbs, 29 mph top speed, Auto Clutch 3-spd, and, if I remember right, 112 mpg maximum at the optimal speed for economy, 12 MPH in second gear. 25 cents would fill the less-than-a gallon tank.
