Chairlift 9 terrain can be avalanche prone - don't cut boundary ropes! Some years, during the early season before the Ridge opens (unstable early season base, and no skier compaction), you can see dozens of slides in the huge bowl served by Chair 9. Skiers from other states with warmer climates and wetter snow should be particularly careful. Colorado high altitude snow can be very dry - and, therefore, has very little structural strength. During the winter at Loveland Basin, it's too cold for a freeze/thaw cycle to consolidate snow layers.
